7/25 I would like to know if you have any information on a Wallace Sterling
(4640) Rose Point candy bowl. My mom has had this bowl for nearly 45 years and
was wondering if there may be any history on this item.
"Rose Point", which was patented in 1934, is one of the premier patterns of
the "Wallace Silversmiths Inc". Wallace is located in Wallingford, Conn.
They had their beginnings in 1834. In 1934 William S.
Warren, designer for the company, conceived the idea of 3 dimensional flatware
patterns - for which the company is noted. Rose Point was the best selling of
these patterns. More hollow ware such as your candy dish used to
be made in sterling. But recently we have found that there have been
many more silverplated items made. At this time we do not see any Rose
Point hollow ware being made. We do get it in from time to time from
estates.
Your candy dish was probably purchased at the height of the popularity for
these beautiful items. PLA
